About
Born and raised in West Texas—Lubbock and Midland—I grew up the kind of kid who was always looking for an adventure in the great wide somewhere. That restlessness turned out to be a feature, not a bug.
The quest for something bigger took me to film school at the University of Texas at Austin, where I fell in love with story in its most visual form. From there I spent time at a megachurch in San Antonio, learning how large organizations move and how faith communities can lose—and find—themselves. Then came seminary in Southern California, which cracked me open in every good way.
These days I pastor Sacred Place UCC in Rancho Cucamonga, a progressive, open-and-affirming United Church of Christ congregation that I helped plant. We're small, we're scrappy, and we take the kingdom of God seriously.
In the margins, I run Mouseways, a Disney vacation planning agency, because if you're going to believe in magic you might as well help other people find it too.
I'm a husband to Christopher, and dad to Noah.
Personality, for the curious: ENFP. Enneagram 7/2/5. I lead with enthusiasm, care too much about everything, and have an encyclopedic interest in things I probably won't finish building.
This blog has been running in some form since 2008. It's a record of someone figuring it out in public.
